The origin of the monthly series ‘Rediscovering Our Catholic Faith’ was during the planning-budgeting sessions last October 2017 when Fr. Bong Tupino suggested aloud during the review of Formation Ministry’s 2018 plans that aside from the weekly Bible study series, entitled School of the Word, conducted by Verbum Dei, the parish also needed a regular series on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or CCC. Then during the annual planning and budgeting meeting in Tagaytay, the idea was brought up formally to Couples for Christ head Glen and Chris Ubaldo who agreed in principle to take up the challenge. CFC searched extensively until they finally identified Fr. Jerome U. Rosali, Parish Priest of Parroquia Dela Nuestra Señora dela Paz y Buen Viaje in Old Balara, Quezon City as the catechetical clergy to anchor the series around. It was agreed that the talks on Profession of Faith would be done once a month, specifically, on the third Thursdays, at 7 pm.

The series is called Rediscovering Our Catholic Faith and is a joint undertaking between CTK’s Formation Ministry and Couples for Christ.

The first episode was held on June 21 where Fr. Jerome set the stage for the talks to follow. He talked about the 20th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council in 1986 where Pope John Paul II organized the commission composed of 12 bishops and cardinals assisted by a committee consisting of seven diocesan bishops, all experts in theology and catechesis, to draft a universal Catechism of the Catholic Church, which would capture in  book form the beliefs of the Catholic faithful. In 1992, the draft was submitted to and approved by Pope John Paul II. The Catechism is arranged in four principal parts: The Profession of Faith (the Apostle’s Creed); The Celebration of the Christian Mystery (the Sacred Liturgy, and especially the sacraments); Life in Christ (including the Ten Commandments); and Christian Prayer (including the Lord’s Prayer). These are often referred to as the “Four Pillars” of the Faith. The contents are abundantly footnoted with references to sources of the teaching, in particular the Scriptures, the Church Fathers, and the Ecumenical Councils and other authoritative Catholic statements, principally those issued by recent popes.
