Last March 31 saw 32 livelihood scholars-graduates of Ladies of Charity- CTK Chapter (LOC) formally receive their diplomas in the Home Care Provider course.

The 32 livelihood trainees came from two barangays of Project 4, namely, Tagumpay and Dioquino Zobel. Project 4 also includes the Escopa barangays, Blue Ridge, Bagumbuhay, Bayanihan, Marilag, Masagana, Milagrosa, and Maria Clara.

Ms. Tonette Arizabal, LOC treasurer and also acting chairman of LOC’s Livelihood Committee, opened the event. LOC vice president Diana Gozum spoke on behalf of LOC, since president Fe Pery was indisposed. Tonette also acknowledged the contribution of Dr. Mia Ramos of Quezon City’s Department of Social Service & Development who actually conducted the training. Among the V I P s were several ‘kagawads’ from both Tagumpay and Dioquino Zobel.

Ms. Gilda Pimentel, Chief of the Manpower Development Of[ice in QC’s Department of Social Service & Development, gave the inspirational talk to the new graduates. In her talk, she committed to arranging on-the-job training (OJT) and preparing them to take the national certi[ication NC2 given by TESDA. That certi[ication would also the graduates to be employed and work abroad.

Fr. Bong Tupino graced the event and congratulated the graduates, at the same time challenging them to take full advantage of the opportunity that had been given to them. After giving out the diplomas, snacks and refreshments followed.

The three-month course, Home Care Provider, consisted of: vital signs monitoring, health care servicing, basic nursing, and home care provisioning. It started in January 2017 and ended in late March. Sessions were half days from Tuesdays to Fridays, for a total of nearly 200 training hours.

LOC provided free uniforms and starter kits, aside from providing the training for free. The trainer Dr. Ramos was given a token honorarium. The Ladies of Charity is the implementation arm for CTK’s Social Services Development Ministry, tasked with organizing livelihood projects and funded from the Parish Pastoral Council budget.
