Christ the King Parish Celebrates Feast of Christ the King
Christ the King Parish Greenmeadows formally celebrated its Fiesta Day last November 26, the last Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Older parishioners might recall that on November 25, 1979, at the Feast of Christ the King, in a mass officiated by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal L. Sin, then the Archbishop of Manila, a new parish composed of Bgy. Libis, Bgy. Bagumbayan, the gated villages of White Plains and St. Ignatius, and the newly-opened Corinthian Gardens and Greenmeadows wa s formally established, out of the original territory that used to belong to Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Parish, Project 4. This new ‘Christ the King Parish’ was placed under the the vicariate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH). The White Plains chapel served as the temporary parish convent and Fr. Victorio Antonio Lanuevo was installed as the first parish priest. So Christ the King Parish Greenmeadows is officially 38 years old.
The November 26 Fiesta Day was preceded by nine days of 6 pm Novena Masses starting November 11 and ending November 25. For each Novena day, different presiders, village sponsors, and choirs had been assigned, culminating last November 25, the ninth day, with Msgr. Dan Sta. Maria, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Cubao, and previous parish priest of CTK, as presider, Barangay Libis as sponsor, and CTK Youth Choir as singers. The specific assignments for each of the novena days were:
• 17th: Greenmeadows 1 & 3, coordinated by Eileen de Leon & Dulce Barreto, with Couples for Christ Choir, presided by Fr. Bong Tupino
• 18th: Acropolis, coordinated by Irene Robles and Maan del Rosario, with Koro Sanctuario, presided by Fr. Allan Samonte
• 19th: Enclave & Ivory Court, coordinated by Joey & Irene Sto. Domingo and Regie Nolido, with Cathedral Choir, presided by Most Reverend Teodoro C. Bacani, Jr., D.D.
• 20th: Corinthian Gardens, Greenwich & Arcadia, coordinated by Fe Pery, Linda Guanzon, Vangie Yam, Fe Flores, Lita Sambrano, with APLOC Choir, presided by Fr. Eric Castro
• 21st: White Plains & White Plains Terraces, coordinated by Paul & Dinah Uy, with Servi Domini, presided by Fr. Edgar Joseph Miranda
• 22nd: Corinthian Hills, coordinated by Irene Robles and Maan del Rosario, with Koro Sanctuario, presided by Fr. Herbie Santos
• 23rd: Eton Cyberpod, Robinsons Galleria, Crowne Plaza & St. Pedro Poveda College, coordinated by Merlin Lumba, Ding Castaneda, Gladys Silverio, and Azucena Camagan, with Novo Concertante, presided by Msgr. Rig de Guzman
• 24th: Barangay Libis, coordinated by Ching Botero and Jo Piyaw, with CTK Youth Choir, presided by Msgr. Dan Sta. Maria
At 3 pm , the Eucharistic Adoration , organized by the Apostleship of Prayer, was held at White Plains Chapel, the parish’s First church, led by Fr. Bong Tupino. Songs, prayers, and readings interspersed with periods of silence served to direct the attention of the faithful. Then at 4 pm, the monstrance, or ostensorium, with the consecrated Eucharistic host, was led out by Fr. Bong who mounted the carroza to begin the Eucharistic Exposition. The Eucharistic procession to Christ the King parish church began, with the altar servers leading the entourage, followed by the brass band, then the Knights of Columbus honor guards. Fr. Bong Tupino then made his way into the church for the Consecration and Benediction ceremony that concluded with the Eucharistic Blessing.
The event-Filled Feast Day of Christ the King culminated in the 5 pm Fiesta mass presided by Cubao Diocese Bishop Honesto Ongtioco.
