Ladies of Charity Mounts Home Care Livelihood Project at Barangay Libis

The Ladies of Charity mounted its first livelihood program for 2019 last January 23 at Barangay Libis. 25 Libis participants attended the first day of the seminar-workshop, held at the Libis Barangay Hall. The program would continue every Wednesday and Friday, whole day from 8 am to 5 pm, until the end of March. Like most of the livelihood programs of the LOC, this is being held in coordination with TESDA and the Quezon City Social Services and Development Division.

The home care sector is largely supported by several foreign governments, which aims to help people age comfortably in their own homes. As a result, it is a booming industry with many job opportunities available. Working in people’s homes also means you’ll be out and about all day, with flexible hours and the freedom to work when it suits you. Graduates may even go on to specialise in other areas, such as care for the aged or the disabled. Best of all, graduates enjoy a satisfying career helping people live in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

Students learn to take a patient’s vital signs, give medication, change dressings and help with exercises. Home health aides assist older, sick or disabled adults in hospices, other home health agencies or a client’s home. The course covers basic nutrition, safe patient transfer techniques, infection control, basic life support and medical terminology.

Program coursework includes: introduction to home health care; basic life support; checking vital signs; medical terminology; aging process and nutrition; and medication administration.

The Libis course takers even found time to accompany the Ladies of Charity to the Anawin Nursing Home to bring joy to abandoned lolos and lolas.
