October was Rosary Month and the first of October, a Sunday, was celebrated by praying the Holy Rosary followed by the flower offering at 4:20 pm, just before the 5 pm Sunday mass at the main church. The Rosary was prayed the following day, October 2, until October 31 after the 7 am masses and before the 6 pm masses on weekdays. Youth Fiesta Kick-Off Starts CTK’s Fiesta Celebration

The CTK Youth Ministry, headed by Louie and Lei Abando, mounted the annual Youth Fiesta Kick-Off last November 18, usually staged a week before the actual feast day of Christ the King. The participants, mostly in the 15 to 20 year old range, included village youth, PREX youth, Ladies of Charity scholars, Knights of Columbus scholars, plus friends and ‘barkada’ of some of the participants. Diwanihan Kristiyano organized a talk with accompanying exercises last October 31 on the increasingly-popular topic of ‘Mindfulness’, a process of focusing on the present. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. Record 66 Couples Attend 4th Quarter Marriage Vocation Program

The CTK Family & Life Ministry, headed by Regie and Joanne Polancos, held the 4th quarter Marriage Vocation Program, or MVP, on the weekend of November 4 and 5. It was attended by a record 66 couples, all slated to get married at CTK main church anywhere from December 2017 to March 2018. At 16 hours long over two weekend days, Christ the King has one of the longest marriage preparation seminars in the Metro area. Msgr. Tony Mortillero Celebrates 82nd Birthday

CTK’s retired resident priest, the still sprightly Monsignor Antonio ‘Tony’ or ‘Morti’ Mortillero SJ , celebrated his 82nd birthday last November 5 with a 7 am morning mass on November 4. This was followed by a hearty breakfast at the convent veranda. Msgr. Mortillero has been in the priesthood for an unbelievable 54 years, having been ordained on the 23rd of December 1962. Fr. Fred Cristian Narvasa spoke to over 125 teenage youth and altar servers on ‘What Inspired Me to Answer the Call to Priesthood’ last November 4. Some parishioners would recall that November is always ‘Diocesan and Parish Vocation’ Month hence vocation talks such as Fr. Fred’s are typically scheduled in November. Worship Ministry Commissioning: LeComs, EMHCs, and GreCols

The 140-plus renewing lectors-commentators - not including the nine new ones commissioned last August 13 - were formally commissioned by Fr. Bong Tupino during the November 19 9:00 am Sunday mass in front of a full congregation. He mentioned that the lectors-commentators had gone through the renewa l seminar and were deliberately recommitting to be proclaimers of God’s Word. LOC’s Livelihood Training on Practical Nail Art

Last November 30, the Ladies of Charity, or LOC, conducted a Livelihood Training Program on ‘Practical Nail Art’. The demo-tutorial was conducted by Janina Gutierrez-Tan, a CTK parishioner. The one-day livelihood project was participated in by the graduates of prior LOC cosmetology livelihood training from Barangay Libis. The participants were taught basic nail care; proper use of nail tools; creative ways to better their manicure & pedicure craft; and new original designs for nail decorations.    continue reading →
