For every month of 2018, Christ the King Parish will celebrate each Sunday as a special Sunday. The first Sunday of every month has already been called Stewardship Sunday. This is when the focus is on ‘Stewardship as a Way of Life’ in the parish community. The second Sunday of each month of 2018 will henceforth be Clergy and Consecrated Persons Sunday, with focus on the clergy and the religious orders. For the Parish Outreach Sunday last January 21st, Christ the King Parish Greenmeadows adopted the Holy Family Parochial School in Roxas, Quezon City on the occasion of Parochial Schools’ Month in the Diocese of Cubao. A call was made to support the school's teachers who receive relatively low remuneration. It is common knowledge that with the recent reforms in DepEd policies, public school teachers now receive much more than non-tier 1 private and parochial schools, leading to an exodus of teachers from private schools to public schools. The 2018 Lenten Season has begun. Over the past five weeks, Catholics have been preparing to celebrate the Paschal Mystery: the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord. Fr. Ricky Montañez officiated last February 13, Tuesday, over the burning of Palms and Blessing of Palm Ashes in time for Ash Wednesday, February 14. The ceremony of the Burning of Palms and the Blessing of Ashes was conducted before the 6:00 pm mass outside Divine Mercy Chapel, with nearly all the regular mass goers helping to observe the event. February 14, Ash Wednesday, opened the 2018 Lenten Season, a season of fasting, prayer and alms-giving. It came much earlier than last year’s Ash Wednesday which was celebrated on March 1, 2017. Interestingly, Ash Wednesday coincided with Valentine’s Day. Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the liturgical calendar and it takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday (40 days not counting the Sundays). CTK Life in the Spirit Prayer Community and Healing Ministry held a Healing Service last February 10, Saturday, after the 7:30 pm anticipated mass in celebration of the World Day of the Sick the next day. The service was conducted by Fr. James Matthew of Family Rosary Crusade. The actual ‘healing service' was preceded by 40 minutes of prayers. Every year, in celebration of the World Day of the Sick which is always celebrated on February 11, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, or EMHCs, of Christ the King Parish, conduct a regular outreach to hospital patients. For 2018, they identiQied the charity ward patients of Quirino Medical Center. On top of the requested budgeted amount from PPC funds, the EMHC, led by Albert Quadrante, were able to solicit additional donations and thus donated a total of P100,000 worth of medicines and other healthcare supplies for the needy patients. The Christ the King Parish Greenmeadows celebrated the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord last February 2, a Friday. At 5:50 am before the 6 am mass, at 6:50 am before the 7 am mass, and at 5:50 pm before the well attended 6 pm mass, all just outside the Divine Mercy Chapel, the congregation gathered for the traditional Blessing of Candles.
