At the same time that the Parish Pastoral Council was hosting Bishop Honesto Ongtioco during his Episcopal Pastoral Visitation last June 10, Fr. Bong Tupino, together with OLHP Vicar Forane Fr. Arnel Recinto, welcomed the CTK scholars for schoolyear 2017-2018 in St. Matthew Room. These consisted of 130 high school and 10 college students that had been vetted by the Ladies of Charity, the mandated organization that is the primary delivery vehicle for CTK scholarships. The 10 CTK college scholars are in UP, PUP, UE and other colleges.

The LOC organizers gave out the children’s monthly stipends and gave a comprehensive catechism test. As a requirement, the children applying must maintain an average grade of 85% every grading period.

The scholarship program was started by LOC on its own in 1986, with 10 scholars. But after LOC partnered with the CTK Parish Pastoral Council and its Social Service and Development Ministry, the number of scholars increased to 100, with 50 being sponsored by CTK and 50 by the Ladies of Charity under Monsignor Dan Sta. Maria. At the current time, CTK’s Social Service and Development Ministry under Mila Bangco is funding the scholarship project 100% but still supervised by the Ladies of Charity.

The LOC Scholarship Committee is headed by Dolor Enriquez and vice head is Malu Cataldi.
