January 29 saw the second and 2inal group of lectors and commentators get commissioned at the 6:30 pm Sunday mass by Fr. Bong Tupino. As he did last December 4 when the 2irst group of over a hundred lectors-commentators were being commissioned, Fr. Bong told the congregation that the ‘lecoms’ had gone through the renewal seminar, attended various formation talks, and were voluntari ly recommit t ing themselves to be proclaimers of God’s Word. And as he did last December 4, he asked the congregation to give them a big hand. The second group of lectors-commentators, numbering around 40, had missed the December 4 commissioning and this was their last chance to get commissioned for 2017, or else they would have had to sit out 2017.

Fr. Bong then asked the lectors and commentators to go to the front for the formal commissioning and blessing. CTK’s parish priest gave the standard prayer of blessing, exclaiming:

“Everlasting God, when he read in the synagogue at Nazareth, your Son proclaimed the good news of salva(on for which he would give up his life. Bless these Lectors and Commentators, as they proclaim your words of life, strengthen their faith that they may read with convition and boldness, and put into practice what they read. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Just before the end of the mass, there was an appeal from the Missionaries of the Poor, who were selling tickets to ‘Messiah’, the Jamaican reggae musical of the ‘greatest Truth ever told’.
