In back-to-back dinner meetings, Fr. Bong Tupino announced to the village coordinators last Thursday February 23 and to the mandated organizations and renewal movement heads last Friday February 24 that couples Bert and Marie Anne Santos, PPC Lay Coordinator, and couples Henry and Joyce Tañedo, PPC Assistant Lay Coordinator, would henceforth take on the roles of ‘animators’ for the two groups respectively.

Fr. Bong explained that he really cannot Oind the time to regularly meet, guide, and advice the village coordinators and the orgs and movements as they plan their activities and projects in this Year of the Parish. Hence, he is ‘deputizing’ the Santoses and the Tañedos to act as ‘animators’. So last February 23, Fr. Bong once again introduced Bert and Marie Anne Santos in their new role to the village coordinators and the next night, February 24, he introduced Henry and Joyce Tañedo in their new role to the mandated organizations and renewal movements.

Represented at the February 23 gettogether were: Arcadia by Fe Flores; Acropol is by Anne del Rosario; Corinthian Hills by Paul and Dinah Uy; Corinthian Garden by Fe Pery and Linda Guanzon; Enclave by Joey Sto. Domingo; Greenmeadows 1 by Eileen de Leon and Dulce Barreto; St. Ignatius by Baby Banal and Lulay dela Cruz; and White Plains by Mel Novales and Diana Gozum.

Represented at the February 24 meeting were: Adoracion Nocturna Filipina by Rudy Tecson; Apostleship of Prayer represented by treasurer Armine Tagaysay; Buklod ng Panginoon by new head Mancita Pabillo and Evelyn Sumbillo; Catholic Women’s League by Kim Cua; Christian Family Movement by representatives of head couple Leo and May Nitorreda, namely: Julie Morales and couple Michelle and Edwin Bernardo; Knights of Columbus by Boy Angeles; Legion of Mary by Mila del Fonso and Ruby Borja; and Life in the Spirit Prayer Group (LSSPG) by Margie San Juan. Not represented were Couples for Christ (headed by Eddie and Cecille Salonga), represented were Couples for Christ (headed by Eddie and Cecille Salonga), Diwanihan Kristiyano (headed by Mon and Loung Cuartero, although since DK was part of the Pagibig sa Diyos prayer community which had the Tañedos as head elders, in effect, the Tañedos stood in for DK) and Ladies of Charity (headed by Fe Pery).

With focus on Basic Ecclesial Communities, or BECs, he challenged the animators and their constituents who attended the meetings to identify activities and measures that would move their neighborhoods (for the village coordinators) and their prayer cells and work teams (for the movements and organizations) closer to the ideal profile of the Basic Ecclesial Community. In the February 24 organization heads’ meeting, for example, Fr. Bong asked several questions to reflect upon.

– What do I see as the mission of our organization?
– How well do I know my organization? For example, when was it founded, at parish, na(onal, and international level; who founded; why was it founded; how many members at the parish, na(onal and interntional level; what activities are being undertaken at parish, national and international level.
– How can we concretize in our organization the call of the Church to be a Communion of Communities?
– How can we foster in our organization the neces sary involvement and participation in the parish?
– What is my dream for our organization vis-à-vis its relationship with our Parish Community as well as with the Diocese of Cubao?

As a result of these kick-off meetings, the village coordinators and the mandated orgs and renewal movements should expect see much more of Fr. Bong’s representatives at their regular monthly meetings as well as being called to ‘large group’ meetings.
