The Libis community celebrated its First Friday Street Mass last December 7, with none other than Fr. Steve Zabala officiating. This was Fr. Steve’s first for the Libis community and was organized by BEC coordinator Eileen de Leon. Accompanying Fr. Steve were Eileen, Maan del Rosario, Wins Mirasol, and a delegation from the Ladies of Charity that included president Tonette Arrizabal, Mila Bangco, Teri Floro, and Melanie Aquino. In his homily in front of 70 mass goers, Fr. Steve talked about why Jesus asked the two blind men he healed to keep their healing a secret and why the two did not do so. His answer was – news of blessings always need to be shared. Similarly, the ‘Good News’ cannot be contained but has to be shared within the community. And through sharing the Word of God, we bring the community residents closer to the Church. After the mass, Barangay Libis Kagawad Danny, who together with the other kagawads represented Kapitana Leni, who was indisposed, gave the response, where he wished that the Libis residents would be ‘tsismosa’ and spread the word so that they can attend the next street mass and meet the new parish priest. Eileen then introduced Fr. Steve who gave a warmly- received message, followed by Eileen who introduced the BEC leaders and unveiled the 2019 planned activities. LOC president Tonette Arrizabal then gave a preview of the 2019 livelihood training programs that included a caregiver course and electrical. Although 70 participated in the mass, many more came afterwards during the fellowship to partake of the merienda, including a large group of Libis children. Wins Mirasol of Stewardship Committee also distributed out the Stewardship refrigerator magnets.

Last October 12, the CTK BEC officers led by Eileen de Leon together with some Ladies of Charity leaders Teri Floro and Tonette Arrizabal and Public Affairs Ministry co-head Jing Alampay met with Libis Barangay Captain Leny Pasco to figure out a way to work together for the formation of the reformists, including possible livelihood projects for the surrenderees and their families, plus scholarship assistance for the surrenderees’ high school children. The discussion immediately resulted in the first Formation Talk two days later, on October 14, at the Libis Barangay Hall. A follow-up formation talk was then held last November 25, this time by Fr. Serge Maniba, still at the Libis Barangay Hall. The BEC officials brought food to share with the surrenderees.

Greenmeadows 1 held its monthly BEC meeting last September 19. The speaker was Danny Moran and the topic was ‘Understanding the Meaning and the Mysteries of the Holy Mass’. The Libis community had its first Formation Talk under the BEC umbrella last October 20, with Fr. Norman Kagaoan facilitating. The topic was on ‘God’s Forgiveness and Our Father’.
