Last September 29, the CTK Children’s Ministry, more popularly known as the Mustard Seed Ministry, led by couple Sonny and Mina Mejia, held a Volunteers’ Workshop conducted by the Ateneo Catechetical Instructional League, or ACIL. One of the volunteers, Ryanna Polancos, daughter of Family and Life Ministry head couple Regie and Joanne Polancos, is an active member of the ACIL. Ryanna conducted the workshop together with fellow ACIL members Pia Sto. Domingo and Gia Fuentebella. Sonny and Mina invited their group because they also conduct seminars to catechists every year in Ateneo. The workshop focused on tips and techniques for teaching the Gospel more effectively to young students. Attendees were Mustard Seed’s Parish Involvement Girls from St. Paul, plus members of the Catechetical Ministry of the Parish of the Holy SacriQice, UP Diliman. Alma Yeh, co-head of CTK’s Catechetical Ministry, also came with daughter and Mustard Seed volunteer Ivy Yeh. Food was sponsored and served By Joanne Polancos, while daughter Regina Polancos acted as photographer.

As of today, the Ministry’s active teacher volunteers include:

‣ Mon and Frances Bernardo. Parents of one of the Mustard Seed a]endees, they joined the team during the Mustard Seed’s Pentecost party.

‣ Tessie and Bernie Bagaman. They said ‘yes’ during one of the Sundays when Mustard Seed Ministry sponsored the Coffee After Church.

‣ Aileen Rodas and children Branden and Abrie. Aileen had been active in CTK back in 1995 during the preparations for World Youth Day while Branden and Abrie regularly serve as readers in the monthly children’s mass.

‣ Regina and Ryanna Polancos. Like their parents, they have the heart for service and despite their busy student schedule, they try to make time to teach at least once a month.

‣ Kitchie Diaz. She has been teaching the Mustard Seed children since the ministry began in 2015.

‣ Alma Yeh and daughter Ivy. Alma joined the roster of teachers last November. Daughter Ivy Yeh has been teaching in the ministry since the start of 2018.

‣ Nicky Maza, Lexie Juarez, Sonny and Mina Mejia’s daughters Sam, Alex and Dani, and Nicole and Lance Macalalad are high school regular volunteers.

In addition to the above active volunteers, the Mejias received expressions of interest from Rica and Lupo Basilio. The Ministry heads continue to invite volunteers who would like to share 30 minutes to an hour each month to teach our youngest parishioners. For those who might be thinking of volunteering, they are enjoined to check out the Mustard Seed Ministry’s FB page to get a good feel for the weekly activities.

The officers and active volunteers of the Mustard Seed Ministry will be commissioned on the Feast of the Sto. Niño in January 2019.
